Launch of Altmetric Explorer for CityU

      ta_web_banner

The Library is pleased to announce the launch of Altmetric Explorer for CityU!

Altmetric sounds familiar? Yes, you may have noticed its presence against certain research output records on CityU Scholars and in the RAEES Mock System. Now with Altmetric Explorer for CityU, a dedicated platform integrated with our institutional data, you can delve deeper into altmetrics, generate analytical reports on its dashboard for research outputs, authors and departments at the CityU level and, if desired, with the entire Altmetric database.

Altmetric captures the “online mentioning” of research output from news, social media, patents, policy documents, multimedia platforms, blogs, etc., to provide “evidence” for demonstrating “Research Impact” beyond the academia. The “evidence” is both “quantitative” through the Altmetric Scores and “qualitative” through the links to the mentioning sources that enable researchers to identify “who”, “what”, “why” and “where” about the mentioning to trace the breadth and depth of their impact.

You can find Altmetric Explorer for CityU on the Library’s Research Impact Measurement support site by following the steps below.

      1. Go to Library Homepage (https://www.cityu.edu.hk/lib/)
      2. Under the top menu bar, mouse over “Research Support”, click “Research Impact Measurement”
      3. Find “Impact Assessment Tools” and click “Access” against “Altmetric Explorer for CityU”

Researchers are strongly encouraged to make use of the new tool to review your altmetric information to track the online footprint of your research. You may use the "Quick Search" box at the top right corner to perform a search with your name.

      ta_web_banner

There is a range of search and analytical features on the dashboard of Altmetric Explorer for CityU. To learn more, please refer the Library’s LibGuide.

Please also watch out for our CAP News. A Library Researcher Webinar is around the corner. We will walk you through Altmetric Explorer for CityU and introduce Overton and Lens.org to help you unleash your research impact beyond the academic discourse. More details will be available soon. Stay tuned for our announcement.

      Course Packs

In the coming semester, course instructors may want to provide students with printed or digital course packs containing copyrighted materials. It can be time-consuming to seek and obtain permission for using the copyrighted materials in course packs. Hong Kong Reprographic Rights Licensing Society (HKRRLS) grants CityU the right to legally copy and scan the contents of copyrighted published works licensed through HKRRLS for preparation of course packs by paying a license fee. The Library can assist the instructors in preparing the course packs to comply with the HKRRLS’s requirement.

The license fee will be paid by the department placing the request or by individual students taking the course. If the copyrighted materials are available online via the Library, instructors should provide links on Canvas for students to access the materials instead of producing course packs.
