To extend the CityU’s research impact beyond Hong Kong, two institutes are setup in Mainland China:
The City University of Hong Kong Shenzhen Research Institute (CityUSRI) is a permanent base for applied research, incubation and professional education on the mainland. It is also one of the capital projects aimed at developing CityU into a world-class institution. The Institute is situated in the Gaoxin District in Shenzhen and its building was officially opened at a ceremony on 20 January 2011.
The City University of Hong Kong Chengdu Research Institute (CityUCRI) is a joint project between the University and the Shuangliu government of Chengdu (Sichuan Province) upon a collaborative agreement signed in August 2013. It is the University’s first research institute established in the Western Region of the mainland, serving as the second strategic platform of the University after Shenzhen for research and development, incubation and innovation, as well as professional education and training. With support by the Shuangliu government, the Institute is situated in Shuangliu of Chengdu and the first phase of construction, consisting of four blocks with a total area of over 18,500 square metres, is underway.
