Samuel I. Becher is Professor of Law at City University of Hong Kong. He holds an LL.M. and J.S.D. from Yale Law School and an LL.B. from Tel Aviv University. His research focuses on consumer law, contract law, and law and technology, with particular interest in artificial intelligence and consumer markets.
Professor Becher has published more than 100 scholarly works. His scholarship has been cited by academics, courts, and legislators, and his work has received media coverage in more than 30 countries and over 20 languages. His forthcoming co-authored book with Benjamin Alarie, Superjustice: Law in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, will be published by Oxford University Press in 2026.
Professor Becher is frequently invited to speak at conferences, workshops, and public forums around the world, and has advised policymakers, regulators, and consumer organizations. Before joining CityUHK in 2026, he was Professor of Law at Victoria University of Wellington and held recent visiting appointments at Melbourne Law School (2025–2026), Universidade Católica Portuguesa (2025), and Singapore Management University School of Law, where he served as Lee Kong Chian Visiting Professor (2023–2024). Earlier in his career, he clerked for Chief Justice Aharon Barak at the Israeli Supreme Court and served on the Israeli Standard Contracts Tribunal.
