CityUHK strengthens academic ties with the Technical University of Munich

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), named the Most International University by Times Higher Education in 2024 and 2025, has been actively expanding its global collaboration with top universities around the world to enhance academic excellence and create more opportunities for its students and faculty to explore the world.
Recently, Professor Freddy Boey, CityUHK President and University Distinguished Professor, led a CityUHK delegation to the Technical University of Munich (TUM), where both sides engaged in fruitful exchanges on topics such as computational sciences, biomedical sciences and engineering, industrial collaboration and innovation ecosystems, laying a solid foundation for future collaboration in scientific discovery, innovation and education.
TUM is recognised as one of Europe’s top universities, with outstanding achievements in research, technological advancement and entrepreneurship. Its senior management team, including Professor Thomas Hofmann, President, hosted high-level meetings with the CityUHK delegation, which included Professor Anderson Shum Ho-cheung, Vice-President (Research), Professor Ray Cheung Chak-chung, Associate Provost (Digital Learning), Professor Li Lishuai, Associate Vice-President (Strategic Research), and Ms Ng Pheck Choo, Senior Director of the Office of the President and Director of the Global Engagement Office.
The visit deepened mutual understanding between the two universities. The CityUHK delegation also gained valuable insights into TUM’s interdisciplinary research ecosystem, and the discussions established concrete frameworks for researcher mobility, joint research initiatives and strategic partnerships, with a shared vision for addressing global challenges.
The CityUHK delegation also visited the TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology, TranslaTUM, TUM University Hospital, the TUM School of Natural Sciences, the TUM Institute for Advanced Study, the TUM Graduate School and TUM Venture Labs.
The visit underscores CityUHK’s commitment to fostering global partnerships and advancing its strategic priorities in research excellence and internationalisation.
