Veterinary Anatomic Pathology Residency Programme
Overview
The City University of Hong Kong's Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences (JCC) offers a comprehensive 3-year Anatomic Pathology Residency Programme designed to train highly skilled veterinary pathologists. This programme is conducted in partnership with Cornell University and follows the standards set by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) and the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS).

Training Locations: Predominantly at CityUHK in Hong Kong, with possibility to travel to and train in other institutes (including overseas)

Training and Curriculum
Residents receive advanced instruction in:
- Post-mortem examinations
- Surgical biopsy
- Immunohistochemistry
Additional training includes molecular pathology, forensic pathology, cytology, haematology, biochemistry, and immunocytochemistry.
Residents actively participate in diagnostic services at the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL), contribute to teaching veterinary students, and engage in research projects leading to peer-reviewed publications. The programme also includes weekly rounds, journal clubs, and case discussions to enhance learning.
Resident Responsibilities
- Participate in diagnostic pathology services under supervision, gradually increasing independence over the course of the residency
- Teach anatomic pathology to veterinary students through practical labs and clinical rotations
- Conduct and publish a supervised research project in anatomic pathology
- Attend board preparation courses and participate in national or international pathology conferences

Admission
General Entrance Requirements
Applicants must satisfy the University's general entrance requirements and the following programme-specific entrance requirements:
- Veterinary degree (DVM, BVSc, BVM, or equivalent) recognized for veterinary registration in Hong Kong
- Minimum of 2 years of veterinary clinical experience
- Successful completion of a 6-month probationary period
English Proficiency Requirements
Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is NOT English should also fulfill the following minimum English proficiency requirement:
- a score of 79 (Internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)@#; or
- an overall band score of 6.5 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS)@; or
- a score of 450 in band 6 of the Chinese mainland's College English Test; or
- other equivalent qualifications.
@TOEFL and IELTS scores are considered valid for two years. Applicants are required to provide their English test results obtained within the two years preceding the commencement of the University's application period.
# Applicants are required to arrange with the Educational Testing Service (ETS) to send their TOEFL results directly to the University. The TOEFL institution code for CityU is 3401.
