CityU Press participated in the 2023 Hong Kong Book Fair from 19 July to 25 July. Several new titles were showcased, including two new titles in our signature “CityU Mastermind Series,” and multiple successful book launches were also held at the seven-day event.

“An Era of Pleasure Reading” was our featured theme this year. We believe reading can nurture the mind and the soul in this new era. As the publishing unit of the university, CityU Press is dedicated to Exploring the Future, Reaching for Excellence, and Advancing Academic Exchange. We also hope everyone can enjoy reading in this new era.

Mr Lester Garson Huang, CityU Council Chairman, and Professor Lee Chun-sing, Provost and Deputy President of CityU, showed their support by reading through some of our new titles during a visit to the CityU Press booth on the first day of the fair (19 July).

Two book launches and seminars under the “CityU Mastermind Series” aimed to strengthen connections between authors and readers. Dr Sunny Chai Ngai-chiu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and Chairman of The Federation of Hong Kong Industries, who is an Honorary Fellow of CityU, discussed the challenges he has encountered in his life in the new book Sunny Chai: Managing Balance.

Another book launch, on 21 July, featured Dr Allen Shi Lop-tak, President of the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong and a CityU Honorary Fellow, talking about his book Allen Shi: The Uncommon Journey and his views on innovation.

In addition, CityU Press, together with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Hong Kong (PCPD), released The Treasure-trove of Privacy – Understanding Your Personal Data, which introduces the data privacy law in an easy-to-understand manner and uses examples from daily life to aid comprehension.

Furthermore, CityU Press and PCPD held a book launch and seminar on “Cyberbullying and Doxxing Behaviour Involving Students” on 24 July. The speakers, including Ms. Ada Chung Lai-ling, Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, and Mr. Chu Ka-tim, Chairman of the Hong Kong Association for Computer Education and Vice-Principal of Hong Kong True Light College, discussed the current phenomenon of doxxing.

CityU Press showcased academic and professional titles at the book fair, including subjects such as China studies, Hong Kong studies, and various social sciences. Alongside our publications, we also introduced some exclusive souvenirs to our readers to spread the joy of reading.

See you all at the Hong Kong Book Fair next year!
