CityUHK Press Successfully Hosts “AI X Gen Z — Mapping Your Future Career and Life” Event Over 150 Young Participants Engage with Industry Leaders on AI-Driven Future
City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) Press successfully held the new book launch cum book talk “AI X Gen Z — Mapping Your Future Career and Life,” which attracted over 150 secondary school students and young participants. The event facilitated meaningful dialogue between Gen Z and top-tier executives and professionals from various sectors, exploring how artificial intelligence is reshaping career landscapes and empowering young people to choose fulfilling future pathways.

Cross-Sector Leaders Gather to Decode the Future of Work
Organisers of the event were honoured to have Ms. Grace Yu, MH, CityUHK Council member, deliver the opening remarks. She encouraged attendees to “bravely embrace new opportunities, leverage the abundant resources Hong Kong society offers, and carve out their own stages to shine.”
A distinguished panel of experts provided valuable insights on developing core competencies and seizing opportunities in the age of AI:
Ms. Alice LAU, JP, Permanent Secretary for Labour and Welfare, emphasized: “AI is a new member of the team. It can facilitate our work, but responsibility remains with us. There's no need to be overly concerned about AI taking jobs, as it lacks emotion and cannot fully handle interpersonal roles.”
Ms. Aveline SAN, Chief Executive Officer and Head of Banking, Citi Hong Kong, shared: “I always encourage every colleague to learn how to use AI to enhance productivity. AI won’t replace people, but those who master AI will replace those who don’t. Stay curious and keep up with technological advancements.”
Ms. Vivienne CHIU, Chief Brand and Communications Officer, BOC Group Life Assurance Company Limited, noted: “I see AI as an enabler—a great assistant for research and reporting. But risk management is crucial, and human oversight is still essential.”
Mr. Kelvin YEUNG, Co-founder & COO of MediConCen Limited, inspired the audience with his entrepreneurial journey: “AI profoundly impacts tech innovation, especially in programming. However, human warmth is irreplaceable, and AI still falls short in structural design and creative tasks.”
Prof. Brian KOT, Assistant Professor, Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health & Department of Chemistry, CityUHK, urged students: “In academia, we are all adapting to AI. The key is learning to ask good questions—it’s about communication, something AI cannot replace.”
Youth Organizations Collaborate for an Inspiring Exchange
CityUHK Press welcomed members of the Strive and Rise Alumni Club, Junior Police Call, and The Hong Kong Award for Young People, fostering a vibrant platform for exchange and inspiration. The event reinforced the Press’s commitment to community engagement and nurturing the next generation of creative thinkers.
