Congratulations to Professor Julien CHAISSE on Obtaining the Award for Humanities and Social Sciences Prestigious Fellowship Scheme!

Prof Julien CHAISSE received the Humanities and Social Sciences Prestigious Fellowship Scheme (HSSPFS 2021/2022). Not more than ten awards are granted for all institutions per year and this is the first time ever the School receives this award that recognises excellence in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

The title of his award-winning project is “The Tax Factor of the Global Trade War: Designing Better Digital Tax Rules”. This research project will carry out an empirical research on the emerging legal issues at the centre of digitalisation of taxes. Overall, by conducting an impact-based study on digital tax rules at national, regional and global levels, this research will provide an analytical framework for finding long lasting solutions to the impeding international trade war which cuts across the fields of tax, foreign investment and trade.

The HSSPFS is a highly competitive grant scheme which aims to grant extended time-off and supporting funds to the outstanding investigators in UGC-funded universities under the disciplines of the Humanities and Social Sciences Panel, in order to enable them to focus on research work and writing. The qualifications and track record of the nominees, and the scientific and scholarly merit, originality and feasibility of their project proposals, are rigorously assessed. The winning projects also show considerable contributions to academic or professional development, and potential social, cultural or economic application.

Congratulations to Julien!
