Research Assistant in the State Key Laboratory of Marine Pollution (Appointment for 12 months) [Ref. A/R/1175/09]

Duties

  1. Conduct field surveys;
  2. Isolate and keep culture collection of algae;
  3. Participate in algae identification using both molecular and taxonomic approaches;
  4. Report the project progress regularly;
  5. Prepare chemical reagents;
  6. Assist in organising research activities; and
  7. Perform any other duties as assigned.


Occasional work on weekends/holidays may be required.

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree or above, preferably in Marine Biology / Marine Ecology / Environmental Science / Biochemistry / Chemistry or other related disciplines, and no more than a total of 6 years of service at the University.  Strong initiative, a sense of responsibility, good organisationl, time management and analytical skills, ability to work independently in a mature manner under pressure, and capability to adapt to an ever-changing work environment are required.  Experience in handling algae isolation, identification and cultivation would be an advantage.

Salary offered will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Fringe benefits include leave, medical and dental consultations at the campus clinic.
