The Department of Public and International Affairs (PIA) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) is delighted to announce a new partnership with the School of International Studies (SIS) at Peking University (PKU), marking an important step in strengthening academic collaboration and exchange between the two institutions. The partnership agreement was signed in August 2026 during a visit to Peking University by a PIA delegation comprising Professor Jinghan (Michael) Zeng, Head of PIA; Professor Le Bao, Assistant Professor; and Professor Michelle Zhou, Adjunct Professor.
The delegation was warmly received by SIS colleagues, including Professor Shiqi Tang, Dean of SIS; Yibo Zhu, Associate Dean of SIS; and Gao Jingwen, Deputy Director of the SIS Domestic Cooperation Office. At the signing ceremony, Professor Shiqi Tang and Professor Jinghan (Michael) Zeng signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions, formally establishing the partnership.
Under the agreement, PIA and SIS will explore a wide range of opportunities for academic, research and administrative collaboration. These include exchanges involving faculty members, researchers, administrative staff and students, as well as reciprocal visits, joint academic activities and other forms of institutional cooperation.
An important focus of the partnership in 2026 will be the “Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau Youth Green International Leadership” exchange programme. Supported by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Education, the collaboration forms part of SIS’s annual Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau youth exchange programme.
Aligned with national priorities on green development and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, this year’s programme focuses on “Green International Leadership.” Through exchanges and activities centred on sustainable development, the programme seeks to strengthen connections among young people from Beijing, Hong Kong and Macau while nurturing future leaders with a global perspective, cross-cultural awareness and a commitment to sustainability.
PIA and SIS plan to organise reciprocal visits and exchange activities during 2026, providing students and staff with opportunities to engage with different perspectives on public and international affairs, sustainability and leadership. These activities will also help deepen young people’s understanding of national and social development while promoting mutual understanding and respect for cultural diversity.
Beyond the youth exchange programme, the PIA delegation and SIS colleagues held extensive discussions on broadening cooperation between the two institutions. Both sides expressed a shared commitment to developing a comprehensive and long-term partnership encompassing research collaboration, faculty and student exchanges, joint academic activities and other areas of mutual interest.
As one of China’s leading institutions for international studies, SIS at Peking University brings considerable academic expertise and a strong tradition of research and education in international affairs. The partnership further strengthens PIA’s engagement with leading universities and academic institutions in the Chinese Mainland and expands opportunities for students and colleagues to participate in meaningful cross-regional academic and educational exchanges.
PIA looks forward to working closely with SIS to build a productive and enduring partnership and to develop further opportunities for collaboration in research, education, student development and academic exchange.
