Held at the Benjamin & Anny Kwok Conference Room, the seminar featured two distinguished former ambassadors of the People’s Republic of China: Former Ambassador ZHAN Yongxin and Former Ambassador HUANG Ping. Approximately 100 staff members and students attended, alongside representatives from the Commissioner’s Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC in the HKSAR, the Beijing–Hong Kong Academic Exchange Centre, and the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR.

In his welcoming remarks, Prof Alfred Tat-Kei HO, Dean of CLASS, highlighted CityUHK’s commitment to cultivating global awareness and strengthening academic collaboration, particularly following the University’s Memorandum of Understanding with China Foreign Affairs University.

Former Ambassador Zhan Yongxin shared insights on the evolving international landscape and prospects for Asia-Pacific regional economic cooperation, underscoring the importance of multilateralism and regional connectivity. Former Ambassador Huang Ping focused on advancing US–China relations through people-to-people diplomacy, emphasising sustained engagement at multiple levels of society.
 

“We hope to develop multi-dimensional people-to-people diplomacy by building more channels of communication and cooperation between the peoples of both sides to enhance mutual understanding and trust, thereby fostering people-to-people bonds and steering bilateral relations towards steady and long-term progress,” Ambassador Huang said.
 

The seminar concluded with a dynamic Q&A session hosted by Prof ZENG Jinghan, Head of PIA, followed by a networking luncheon that further facilitated dialogue and exchange. The event reaffirmed CityUHK’s role as a platform for high-level diplomatic engagement and meaningful global discourse.
