My years at CityU as a part-time lecturer, PhD student and postdoctoral fellow were defined by exceptional mentorship and an intellectually vibrant environment. The then Head of Department encouraged me to pursue doctoral studies at a formative moment; my PhD supervisor provided clear and rigorous research guidance, and my postdoctoral supervisor consistently trusted me to explore emerging areas of interest. I also gained enormously from exchanges with faculty members from diverse disciplinary backgrounds and from the strong peer support within my PhD cohort. These open conversations and the department’s rich intellectual culture equipped me well for my academic career, and I am delighted to continue returning as a guest speaker to contribute to its teaching and mentoring community.
