CityU Scholars Profile
Professor Xin Sunny Wang was awarded the “2023 Star of Tianhe Award” for his outstanding accomplishments in computational-oriented research performed partly on the Tianhe supercomputer in Guangzhou, China.
This award was presented on December 6th during the 2023 Supercomputing Application Conference in China, hosted by Chinese National Supercomputer Center in Guangzhou.
This year, 20 awardees were selected among thousands of users of the Tianhe supercomputer, encompassing the broad field of high-performance computation in science, technologies and beyond, with particular emphasis on biomedicine and health, atmospheric and oceanic environment, astronomy and geophysics, new energy and materials, industrial simulation and intelligent manufacturing, artificial intelligence, smart cities, and digital media.
In his winning work, Professor Wang’s group studied the so-called “superexchange” interaction in spin-based quantum computing. Superexchange allows distant spins to interact in quantum devices. They studied a system in which two electrons reside in three quantum dots, and gained valuable insight that the superexchange can be non-monotonically controlled via detuning. The paper, titled “Universal control of superexchange in linear triple quantum dots with an empty mediator”, has been published in Physical Review B of the American Physical Society.
