Science in the Public Service (SIPS)

InnoCarival

Professor Condon LAU, Associate Professor from the Department of Physics at the CityU, recently held a workshop titled "Artificial Intelligence Powered Image-to-image Translation for Disease Diagnosis", in which a revolutionary technology "AIstain" was introduced to the public. This workshop was one of the Science Exploration Activities organized for the Science in the Public Service (SIPS) 2023 at the Earth Science Gallery at the Hong Kong Science Museum.

AIstain is a generative AI tool for virtual tissue staining. It is much faster, cheaper and easier to use than conventional veterinary pathology tools, advancing cancer diagnostics. During the workshop, participants gained hands-on experience with traditional pathology "staining", microscope tissue examination, and AI virtual pathology staining.

In addition to his contribution to SIPS 2023, Professor LAU also showcased this remarkable technology at InnoCarnival 2023, an event designed to celebrate and promote the latest advancements in technology and innovation, as well as to inspire students.

Professor LAU’s dedication to sharing knowledge and promoting the application of artificial intelligence in the field of medical diagnosis is truly praiseworthy. His work has undoubtedly contributed to the advancement of technology and innovation in Hong Kong. We eagerly anticipate more such enlightening events in the future. Stay tuned!
