With the support of the Department of Physics and the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) of City University of Hong Kong, the International Workshop on Energy Materials and Scattering Techniques took place successfully. A three-day workshop, from 26 to 28 May 2023, attracted more than 50 participants and 20 speakers from different universities worldwide. The aim was to share recent findings and explore new directions in related areas, as well as to pursue excellence in the research of energy materials and scattering techniques with knowledge exchange.

The first day of the event was marked by a warm welcome dinner for all the attendees. The next day, Prof. Qi Liu gave a brief overview of the workshop to the participants. After that, Prof. Xun-Li Wang (Executive Director, IAS) and Prof. Yang Ren (Head of Physics, CityU) delivered opening remarks to the participants. Then, the stage was set for the two-day informative and intensive invited talks from worldwide talents of their specialised area, covering various topics, such as:

  • Battery materials
  • Catalysts
  • X-ray and neutron scattering techniques

The workshop ended on a high note with a closing remark that wrapped up the event. The organiser received warm applause and gratitude from all the speakers and participants for holding such a meaningful workshop, and their best answers were shown by their active participation and feedback during group discussions. After a hearty lunch, the participants bid farewell to each other and wished for more opportunities to collaborate in the future.

The workshop was a great success, and we were grateful to have invited speakers to share their insights and findings on various topics in energy materials and scattering techniques and related areas. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Prof. Qi Liu for organising such a fruitful and meaningful event, thanks to the support from the Department of Physics and the Institute for Advanced Study of the City University of Hong Kong. Looking forward to having another workshop soon!
