Fun STEM @ CityU Physics 2019

In light of the overwhelming response to our workshop Innovation via Hologram last December, the Department reorganized 16 half-day workshops for secondary students from 24 June to 9 July 2019. Each workshop lasted for 3 hours with a maximum capacity of around 30 students. There were over 25 secondary schools with over 480 students joined our half-day workshops on holography.

In the workshop, students learned to apply some interesting concepts of physics to hologram production, and gained hands-on experience to create their own hologram at our optics laboratory.

A hologram is three-dimensional (3D) because it records both the intensity and the direction of the light that hits the film. This additional information is recorded in the interference pattern and allows us to look form different angles of the recorded film as if it is there.
