Organized by the College of Science, the first Science Summer Camp came to successful completion in July 2019. As a new initiative of the College, the Science Summer Camp is a 5-day programme with an aim to bringing together outstanding prospective PhD candidates who plan to embark on PhD studies in science and related disciplines.

During the five days in CityU, an array of activities were arranged for our camp participants, which include visit to our state-of-art research facilities, campus tour, research seminars by our faculty members, information talk on CityU’s research degree programmes and the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme. Apart from academic-related activities, our camp participants have also had a taste of the Hong Kong local culture and heritage through outings to various parts of the city.

At the welcoming ceremony, Professor Raymond Chan, Dean of the College of Science, highlighted in his opening remarks that Hong Kong is a gateway to Mainland China connecting seamlessly with the rest of the world. The established international network makes Hong Kong and CityU which is situated at the heart of the city an ideal destination for students pursuing research education.

This year, the Science Summer Camp was very well received. 47 participants were accepted to the Summer Camp. Of them, 37 participants visited CityU between July 8 and 12, while the remaining 10 participants will be coming in in late August. The profile of the selected participants is highly international with participants from different places, e.g. Taiwan, Mainland China, Korea, Morocco, Vietnam and Hong Kong.

The Science Summer Camp will invite applications for next year in early 2020. Interested students are welcome to visit our website for more information nearer the time.
