The Department of Mechanical Engineering (MNE) at City University of Hong Kong, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Nuclear Society (HKNS), successfully co-organised the Nuclear Forum 2026: Recent Developments in Nuclear Energy – Exploring Future Energy and Innovation Collaboration on 13 July 2026. The event attracted more than 300 participants from Hong Kong, Mainland China and around the world, fostering meaningful exchange among leading experts, academics, industry leaders and policymakers.

The forum served as a premier platform for leading experts, academics, industry leaders and policymakers to exchange insights on the latest developments in nuclear energy and explore opportunities for international collaboration in support of a sustainable, low-carbon future.

Featuring distinguished speakers from international organisations, government agencies, utility companies, research institutions and universities, the forum showcased cutting-edge advancements shaping the global nuclear landscape. Discussions focused on the role of nuclear energy in achieving decarbonisation goals and strengthening energy security, as well as emerging innovations that are transforming the sector.

Key topics included nuclear energy for sustainable development, small modular reactors and advanced fission technologies, recent progress toward the commercialisation of fusion energy, and enabling technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital twins, advanced materials, superconducting systems and high-performance computing.

Throughout the event, participants engaged in forward-looking dialogue on the technological, policy and societal frameworks required to support the safe, responsible and sustainable deployment of nuclear energy worldwide. The forum underscored the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in addressing global energy and climate challenges.
