Objectives

In recent years, tremendous advances have been made in approximation theory and new connections to other research areas have been found such as random matrices, Riemann-Hilbert problems, wavelets, learning theory, compressed sensing and image processing. These new topics and related methods have led to important applications of approximation theory in a wide variety of fields such as business and economics, finance, physics, chemistry, biology, geology and industrial engineering.

This International Conference on Approximation Theory and Applications will provide a forum for the exchange of expertise, experience and insights among world leaders and young researchers who are active in the area of approximation theory and related fields. It is envisaged that this meeting will stimulate further research, and act as a vehicle to promote this important field of applied mathematics in Hong Kong. It will also encourage leading scientists from abroad to further strengthen their cooperation with local scientists.
