State Key Laboratory of Terahertz and Millimeter Waves (SKLTMW)
The establishment of the SKLTMW at CityUHK was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China in 2008. It was the first laboratory of its kind in the engineering discipline in Hong Kong. Research activities in the Laboratory focus on advances and applications of millimeter wave and terahertz technologies.
State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Health (SKLMEH)
The establishment of the SKLMEH at CityUHK was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China in 2009. Led by CityUHK, this brings together seven other universities in Hong Kong and over 40 distinguished researchers to collaboratively develop innovative, interdisciplinary solutions to address the critical issue of marine pollution, which poses a significant threat to the environment and public health.
Chinese National Engineering Research Center
Hong Kong Branch of National Precious Metals Material Engineering Research Center (NPMM)
Established in 2015 with the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, the Hong Kong Branch of the NPMM aims to strengthen the national center’s overall capacity by conducting research on precious metals and nanomaterials, as well as related devices.

USTC-CityUHK Joint Advanced Research Center (Suzhou)
The University of Science and Technology, China (USTC) and CityUHK signed an agreement on 13 June 2004 to set up the USTC–CityUHK Joint Advanced Research Center, whose aim is to carry out frontier research and jointly recruit and educate high-quality research students. More than seven projects, including applied mathematics, control and mechatronics, web services, business and management, environmental science, fire safety and nanomechanics, computational and theoretical materials physics, have been carried out to put conceptual ideas into practice. The Center also serves as a platform to nurture research students. The Center signifies a tighter connection between USTC and CityUHK and has further strengthened the collaboration between the two universities.

University Alliances
In recent years, under the auspices of China's Ministry of Education and the Education Bureau of the HKSAR, Hong Kong and the Mainland have established multiple university alliances, including the Beijing–Hong Kong University Alliance, the Shanghai–Hong Kong University Alliance, the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macau University Alliance, and the Jiangsu–Hong Kong–Macau Higher Education Cooperation Alliance, to deepen collaboration in the field of education. As a member of these alliances, CityUHK has been collaborating closely with universities in the mainland, Macau and Taiwan to actively build platforms for complementary strengths and shared resources in areas such as teaching, research, talent cultivation and technology transfer.
