About Us

CityU Enterprises Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of City University of Hong Kong, is the University’s investment arm holding investment in start-up companies.

• Fostering Innovation and Industrial Growth
  Promote and invest in industries that drive technological innovation, research, development, and advancements in science, education, and culture in Hong Kong.
• Supporting Start-ups and Commercialisation
  Facilitate the growth of start-ups through incubation facilities, financial support, expert guidance, and access to resources to develop and commercialise innovative products and services.
• Driving Technology Transfer and Collaboration
  Promote technology transfer programmes to commercialise intellectual property and collaborate with governmental bodies, educational institutions, and industrial organisations to advance development initiatives.
• Enhancing Education and Research
  Encourage and support tertiary education, training, and experimental research through funding, partnerships, and resource sharing to uplift academic and professional excellence.

Board of Directors

Responsibilities and Authority of the Board of Directors

• To authorise and monitor major investment and strategic commitments of CityUE.
• To monitor the performance of the companies under CityUE in accordance with their approved business plans.
• To approve and monitor funding for strategic initiatives.
• To participate in identifying business risk and overseeing the implementation of appropriate systems to achieve a balance between risk incurred and potential returns.

Governance and Monitoring

CityUE is dedicated to enhance monitoring and governance throughout the investment lifecycle:

• End-to-End Investment Tracking: The whole investment cycle, i.e., from pre-investment, investment execution to post-investment stages will be tracked and performed.
• Start-ups’ shareholding and team members' information is compiled and organised, building a database for CityUE to perform comprehensive due diligence and background checks.
• Post-Investment Monitoring: ongoing monitoring measures such as milestone and quarterly reports submission and SAFE expiry review processes, facilitating:
  • milestone-based payments (tied to milestone achievements);
  • quarterly monitoring of start-ups’ financial and operational status; and the identification of promising and risky start-ups.
  • data-supported exit strategies.
• Portfolio Performance Tracking: The valuation of the invested start-ups, and the financial reports are recorded, enabling the tracking of portfolio performance.
