Part-time/Full-time Postdoctoral Fellow in the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Health (City University of Hong Kong)

We are seeking a highly motivated and independent Part-time/Full-time Postdoctoral Fellow to contribute to the project: "Comprehensive Survey, Conservation, and Sustainable Development Research Proposal on the Resources of Ma You Fish (Fourfinger threadfin Eleutheronema tetradactylum / E. rhadinum)". The successful candidate will play a key role in providing crucial scientific support for this endangered species conservation project.

Duties

  1. Designing and conducting comprehensive field surveys, including environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling and habitat assessments for Ma You Fish across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and Hainan Island;
  2. Performing advanced laboratory and data analyses, specifically utilizing metabarcoding and trophic ecology analysis to evaluate the population status and ecological dynamics of this endangered species;
  3. Managing project timelines and ensuring the timely delivery of research milestones and technical reports for funding agencies;
  4. Providing mentorship and guidance to junior research assistants and students.

Requirements

  1. A Ph.D. degree in a relevant discipline such as Marine Biology/Ecology, Conservation Biology, Molecular Ecology, or a closely related field;
  2. Demonstrated expertise in metabarcoding, trophic ecology analysis, field survey methodologies, and advanced statistical data analysis;
  3. Extensive hands-on experience with molecular techniques (e.g., DNA extraction, PCR) and bioinformatics analysis. Experience with stable isotope analysis for trophic ecology is highly desirable;
  4. A robust track record of publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals, demonstrating strong independent research capabilities in marine conservation or ecology;
  5. An excellent command of both written and spoken English for academic writing and professional communication;
  6. Highly organized and self-motivated, with the ability to thrive both independently and in a collaborative, leadership capacity within a team setting.
