Abstract: The ever-increasing global consumption of fossil fuels has accelerated the depletion of these finite natural resources and resulted in excessive emissions of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide (CO2). Electrochemical approaches provide a promising route for carbon dioxide reduction (CO2RR) and carbon monoxide reduction (CORR) under mild reaction conditions, while enabling tunable product selectivity. However, large overpotentials, low Faradaic efficiencies, and poor product selectivity remain major challenges that hinder the advancement of CO2RR technologies. Advanced synthesis strategies and comprehensive characterization techniques have been widely employed to elucidate the structure-performance relationships between catalysts and CO2 reduction products. In this talk, I will present recent strategies for tuning the performance of nanoscale catalysts to enable the selective conversion of CO2 into targeted products.
