Abstract: Prof. Yamamoto’s research focuses on the computational simulation of complex fluids, particularly colloidal dispersions. In many such systems, dispersed particles are charged and suspended in electrolyte solutions, making hydrodynamic interactions between particles a key factor governing their dynamics. Accurately treating these interactions remains a central challenge in soft matter physics.
Conventional simulation approaches, such as Brownian Dynamics and Stokesian Dynamics, do not explicitly resolve fluid motion and are therefore computationally efficient, but their extension to non- Newtonian fluids is highly nontrivial. Direct numerical simulation (DNS), which fully couples particle motion with fluid dynamics, overcomes this limitation.
In this talk, Prof. Yamamoto will present his recent DNS studies on colloidal dispersions and self-propelled particles, highlighting their dynamics in complex fluid environments.
