The CityUHK Underwater Robotics Team was awarded the First Runner-up at the IET/MATE Hong Kong Regional of the MATE ROV Competition 2026. This multidisciplinary team comprises talented students from various departments across the university, including EE, MNE, and CS. With this outstanding achievement, the team has officially qualified for the 2026 MATE ROV Competition World Championship, which will take place in St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada, from June 25 to 27 this year.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering (MNE) extends its heartiest congratulations to the team, and we are incredibly proud of our MNE student members — Joe Anthony Kar Tong, Cheung Pui Lam, Tsang Hing Lai, and Gracia Catalina Susilo — who will be traveling to Canada to represent the university on this global stage.
Organized by the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Center, this prestigious event challenges students to design and deploy Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) to solve real-world marine engineering and ocean exploration tasks, evaluating teams on both technical performance and professional workplace presentations.
We wish our students and the entire team the absolute best of luck as they compete against top-tier institutions worldwide!
