CityUHK scholar named prestigious ACM Fellow

Professor Jia Xiaohua

Professor Jia Xiaohua, Chair Professor in the Department of Computer Science at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), has been elected a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) in recognition of his outstanding achievements and contributions to the advancement of data security and distributed computing systems.

This year, 71 scholars from 14 countries and regions were named ACM Fellows, including five from Hong Kong. Professor Jia is part of this distinguished group, representing the top 1% of ACM’s more than 100,000 members worldwide.

An internationally renowned expert in computer science, Professor Jia’s research spans cloud computing, distributed systems, computer networks and mobile computing, as well as information data security and privacy. He has published more than 450 research articles in top-tier journals and conferences and has taken on key roles at major international conferences. His academic excellence has been widely recognised. He has been listed among the World’s Top 2% of Scientists by Stanford University for six consecutive years and was awarded funding under the Research Grants Council’s Senior Research Fellow Scheme in 2024/25. Additionally, he is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and was named an ACM Distinguished Member in 2018.


Professor Jia said, “It is a great honour to be elected a Fellow of the ACM. I am sincerely grateful to CityUHK for supporting my research in cloud computing, distributed systems and information security, and for fostering an environment of interdisciplinary collaboration that drives impactful outcomes. Looking ahead, I will continue to devote my research efforts to the advancement of computer science, with the aim of creating breakthrough benefits for academia and society.”
