Seize the Day!

By Jenny Li Yu-ying
Psychology, 2016 Graduate

Jenny Li Yu-ying crafted for herself a colourful university life. Besides going for exchange study in the United States, she participated in different service projects in and outside CityU, while her active campus life style did not stop her from doing well in her studies!

I remember when I first entered CityU, I was so excited about university life. But soon after, I found that there was no fixed group of classmates so I started to spend more time in solitude, sometimes eating alone at canteen. That lonely moment brought me a flash of inspiration: it would be a good idea to randomly talk to someone during mealtime, to share with each other our experience in university and to offer some words of encouragement. The support for each other could be powerful even though the relationship might not fully blossom!

After I joined the Peer Counsellor training program, I learnt to take care of my emotions and I organised an initiative called “Meal Power” with other peer counsellors to talk with the students who were dining alone. This radiated the caring power! Later, I committed myself in different organisations and projects; along with efforts from other like-minded partners, we tried to enhance the well-being of others.

Looking back, I am truly grateful to see so many opportunities open to students to develop their strengths and potentials. It is of paramount importance that we seize it. With faith and continued effort, we can achieve more than we imagine!
