Dr. YU Xinge and his research team developed a wireless self-sensing and haptic-reproducing electronic skin (e-skin) to detect and deliver the sense of touch. The e-skin has 16 flexible sensors to perform the touch sensing and haptic feedback functions. Once a person presses and releases a sensor in one e-skin patch, it provides electrical signals for tactile sensation to a corresponding sensor in another e-skin patch. This invention overcomes the limitations of space and reduces the sense of distance in human communication.

The research findings were published in Science Advances under the title “Touch IoT enabled by wireless self-sensing and haptic-reproducing electronic skin”.
