Dr Cecil CHEN and his team have developed an accurate rapid-test device that allows someone to read their antibody levels following vaccination. Existing antibody testing methods require equipment for quantification, which is expensive, time consuming and impractical for routine tests. With the new device, the antibody level can be displayed directly on the chip. Users are able to see the antibody leave in 20 minutes by viewing the length of the bar on the chip, just like a mercury thermometer.

The work has been published in the journal Science Advances under the title “Microfluidic particle dam for direct visualization of SARS-CoV-2 antibody levels in COVID-19 vaccinees”.
