Jan 2026 – Prof. Li Hanxiong secured a research project under the RGC’s Research Impact Fund
Professor Li Hanxiong, Chair Professor of the Department of Systems Engineering, has successfully secured funding for a project under the Research Grants Council (RGC) Research Impact Fund 2025/26. The project, titled “Integrative Study on Needleless (Wire) Electrospinning for Massive Production”, is conducted in collaboration with the late Professor Hu Jinlian. CityUHK secured four projects in total under this scheme, leading local universities in both the number of projects and funding amount (HK$22.6 million).
Dec 2025 - SYE's EngD Programme wins 2025 Greater Bay Area Doctoral Programme Excellence Model Award
The Engineering Doctorate in Engineering Management programme, offered by the Department of Systems Engineering (SYE), has won the 2025 Greater Bay Area Doctoral Programme Excellence Model Award. The honour was presented at the 2025 China Business School Development Forum and Education Gala, organised by MBA China and The Magazine of Managers, amidst competition from over 100 universities. Having served the engineering community for a quarter-century, the SYE launched a Chinese-medium curriculum in 2025, extending its footprint in the Greater Bay Area and the Chinese Mainland to cultivate elite entrepreneurs and innovation leaders.

Among twenty-nine scholars from City University of Hong Kong, Professor Xie Min, from the Department of Systems Engineering, has been named Highly Cited Researchers 2025 by Clarivate Analytics.

In recognition of the outstanding achievements and significant contributions of our faculty, the College of Engineering established the Research Excellence Award in 2024. Among the seven awardees, Professor FENG Shien-Ping from the Department of Systems Engineering has been honored with the Research Excellence Award for 2025.

25 Jun 2025 – CityUHK scholars lead the future in materials, energy, and biomedicine; Four innovative projects receive funding from RAISe+ Scheme [CityU NewsCentre]
Four distinguished scholars and their research teams from City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) have been awarded grants under the HKSAR Government’s Research, Academic and Industry Sectors One-plus Scheme (RAISe+) Scheme.
Professor Feng Shien-ping, from the Department of Systems Engineering, leads a project titled “Chemical Additive-Enabled Advancements in Electroplated Copper for Advanced Electronic Packaging and 3DIC Applications”.
Nov 2024 – Prof. HUANG Jing-Kai Receives RGC Early Career Award 2024/25
Prof. Huang's project, entitled "Comprehensive Exploration and Application of Bismuth Silicate as an Advanced vdW Dielectric", has been granted under the RGC Early Career Scheme (ECS) 2024/25 exercise. Among the 634 applications of ECS in 2024/25, thirteen early-career scholars received the Early Career Awards, and Prof. Huang is one of them.

12 Jul 2024 - SYE PhD Student Gave a Talk at Cambridge University
Miss Cao Yiyin, an SYE PhD student, was invited to give a research seminar at the Cambridge Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge. Miss Cao’s seminar is titled “A Characterisation of Nash Equilibrium in Behavioural Strategies Through Local Sequential Rationality and Self-Independent Beliefs” .
29 - 30 May 2024 – Systems Engineering Workshop for Complex Intelligent Systems
This workshop provides a platform for research and industrial community interest on system-level problems and applications. The workshop will invite top researchers to discuss all aspects of systems engineering, systems architecture, etc. This event comprises 2 days of presentations (research or tutorials), panel discussions.

Congratulations to Prof. XIE Min on being elected as a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in recognition of his distinctive achievements and contributions to science and society.
15 Sep 2021 – CityU excels on global top scientists list [CityU NewsCentre]
According to a recent study by Stanford University, six SEEM faculty members were among the top 2% of most highly-cited scientists of the world, reflecting the high academic standard of our faculty and our excellent research performance. The six SEEM faculty members include Professor Way Kuo (President and University Distinguished Professor), Professor Chuangyin Dang (Acting Head and Professor), Dr. Kwai-sang Chin (Associate Head and Associate Professor), Professor Min Xie (Chair Professor), Professor Han-xiong Li (Professor), and Dr. Peter W. Tse (Associate Professor).
The Stanford-listed scholars have demonstrated substantial influence in various disciplines through the publication of multiple highly cited papers ranked according to citation impact from 1996 to 2019. Disciplinary differences in terms of citation norms are taken care of since the list identifies the top 2% of scientists in their own areas of specialty.

We are pleased to announce that our master’s degree programme, MSc in Engineering Management, has been selected for sponsorship under the Targeted Taught Postgraduate Programmes Fellowships Scheme by the University Grants Committee of the Hong Kong government. The award recognizes our programme’s contributions to sustainable city and regional development. Eligible local students admitted to the programme in the 2021/2022 academic year will receive a subsidy up to HK$120,000.
