Services and Facilities


Loans

All loans are made upon presentation of valid City University ID Cards or Borrower's Tickets with barcodes. Cards or Tickets are not transferable and cannot be used on behalf of any other person (see Library Regulations).

For DVDs, VCDs, CDs, CD/DVD-ROMs and kits that are kept in the Media Resources Collection Room, users can check out the items with the automatic checkout machines by themselves in the Room. For videocassettes, audio cassettes, laser discs, slides, microforms and other media resources that are kept at the Shatin Branch Library, users can request them online and pick up at the Circulation Counter after receiving the email notice.

Loan Periods and Loan Quotas

Media resource loans are on a first-come-first-served basis. All loans are not renewable. Interactive videos, computer software and microforms are normally for use in the Library only.

Returns

DVDs, VCDs, CDs, CD/DVD-ROMs and kits borrowed from the Media Resources Collection Room should be returned to the automatic return unit called EasyReturn located outside the Collection Room. Media resource items checked out at the Circulation Counter should be returned to the Circulation Counter. Loaned items should be returned in good condition and in complete set on or before the due dates/times. For incomplete returns (i.e. with missing disc/casing/insert/accompanied book, etc), overdue fines will be charged and continue to accumulate until the missing parts are returned.

Media resource items must NOT be returned to any library book drops. Returning media resource items to a book drop is not a legitimate return. It causes delay in processing and overdue fines will be charged. Should damages be caused to the item returned to the book drop, replacement cost plus processing fee will also be charged to the user involved.

Overdue Fines

Normal Media Resources Loans:
HK$5 per item per calendar day

Media Reserve Item Loans:

5-Hour Loan: 1 - 12 hours HK$2 per item per hour or part of an hour after the expiry time;
13 - 24 hours HK$4 per item per hour or part of an hour after the expiry time.
Library closing hours will also be counted as overdue period.
1-Day Loan: First Day Overdue HK$24
Second Day Overdue HK$48

Loss and Damage

Users are held responsible for any loss or damage of media resources while on loan to them. The total cost for replacing the lost or damaged item in addition to the processing fee which normally will be HK$50.00 plus any accumulated fines will be charged to the users involved. Reservation for Class Use (for teaching staff only)

In order to facilitate the use of Library media resources in classes by teaching staff, special requests to reserve these materials can be made preferably two weeks before the class by sending an e-mail to lbmrit@cityu.edu.hk. Course code, item title, call no., and desired pick up date should be provided in the requesting email.

An email notice will be sent to the requester when the item is available for pick up at the Circulation Counter.

Media Resources for Courses - Media Reserve

In order to facilitate the use of Library media resources by students, teaching staff may submit requests to place course-related media resource items on Course Reserve as Media Reserve items. The Media Reserve items are located in the Media Resources Collection Room and have short loan periods of 5 hours or 1 day.

Recommendation of Media Resources

Users are welcome to make recommendations for the purchase of library media resources. For more information on recommending library materials, please refer to the Recommendation of Library Materials page.

Facilities

Individual Viewing

Multimedia PC workstations and carrels with audiovisual equipment are available for use by all library users. To use the AV carrels, please approach the IT Help Desk.

Group Viewing

Eight Group Study Rooms (with seating capacity up to 10) located at Humanities Academy are available for booking by CityU staff and students via the Library Study Space & PC Booking System. Various audiovisual equipment are provided in the rooms to support group viewing activities. For more information on booking the Group Study Rooms, please refer to the Humanities Academy page.

Teaching staff are eligible to book the Mini Theatre (with seating capacity up to 15) for class use. For information on the use and booking policy, and online booking form, please refer to the Mini Theatre page.
