Project

Investigating the Use of Nanobubble Technology in Aquaculture

The project involves assessment of water disinfection technology on aquatic bacteria found in aquaculture settings and its effect on live fish.  More specifically it investigates the use of nanobubble technology in aquaculture.  The overall objective of this project is to assess whether nanobubble technology can reduce the burden of pathogens on aquaculture farms during a disease outbreak and reduce the use and level of antimicrobials in the aquatic environment.

Duties

Carry out research activities, such as set-up and conducting laboratory (tank-based) and field (ponds and sea cages) experiments with live fish (e.g. tilapia, grouper); supervision of research assistants and PhD students; overseeing the technical aspects of the project including ordering supplies; writing reports with the project manager and manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals; and performing other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator. 

Requirements

A PhD degree and no more than 3 years’ experience after the award of a PhD degree; and experience of conducting aquatic laboratory experiments.  Experience in conducting experimental research using molecular techniques; good written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua); good record keeping skills; attention to details; good time management and organizational skills; and a track record of publications are preferred.  Skills with aquaculture set-up, and conducting molecular techniques including DNA/RNA extractions, PCR, and bioinformatics analysis are preferred. 

Salary and Conditions of Service

Salary offered will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Fringe benefits for full-time appointment include leave, medical and dental consultations at the campus clinic.
