Postdoctoral Fellow/Senior Research Associate/Senior Research Assistant in the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management (Appointment for 12 months with possibility of extension) [Ref. A/R/993/09]

 

Project

Safety, Reliability, and Disruption Management of High Speed Rail and Metro Systems

Duties

  1. Design models for guided waves (GW) emission and receipt, and track the behavior of elastic waves when they are propagating in the inspected plates and rails;
  2. Develop simulation and perform necessary programming for the above inspection;
  3. Design and implement laser-based sensors and a transduction system for GW-based inspection for high speed train rails and other targeted objects;
  4. Carry out research work, on-site testing and assist the Co-Principal Investigators in all aspects; and
  5. Undertake administration, teaching assistance and office-related work.


Requirements

A Master's degree in Engineering or related disciplines plus at least 1 year’s experience.  Sound knowledge of and practical experience in GW-related research, proficiency in MATLAB and/or LabView, good knowledge of and practical skills in mathematical modeling and simulation tools (such as ANSYS, Console and Abauqs) are required.  Research or practical experience in railway inspection is preferred.

Candidates with a PhD and no more than 3 years' postdoctoral experience may be considered for appointment as Postdoctoral Fellow.
