The appointee is expected to apply his/her expert scientific knowledge and technical expertise in support of teaching activities in the Department. S/he will lead and manage a team of technical staff to provide technical support and guidance to students and staff in using the departmental laboratory facilities on and off campus. The team is responsible for the set up and maintenance of equipment as well as the preparation and support for a wide range of laboratory-based teaching activities. Main duties include to:
Shift duty and working on Sundays and public holidays may be required.
A postgraduate degree in Veterinary Medicine/Animal Science/Biology/Comparative Anatomy/Zoology/Biomedical Engineering or related disciplines, with substantial relevant experience as the technical lead in a scientific, academic or any other relevant environment. Experience in dissection and tissue handling, histological tissue processing, specimen preservation and mounting, requisitions and disposals, and undergraduate teaching; outstanding management capabilities (including human resources management and planning, risk management and budgeting); proven track record of executing multiple successful projects; knowledge of academic research laboratory operations and requirements; proficiency in English, strong communication and interpersonal skills are required. Relevant teaching qualification, possession of valid Hong Kong driving license, knowledge of Cantonese and/or Mandarin are preferred.
Candidates with lower qualifications or less experience may be considered for appointment as Senior Technical Officer.
Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
