Legal Counsel in the Legal Counsel Office [Ref. D/247/09]

 

Duties

We are now looking for two experienced lawyers to join our Legal Counsel Office.  The appointees will assist and support the Head of Legal Counsel Office to provide a full range of legal services and advice to the University in all major areas of University operation, especially institutional governance, general corporate commercial matters, litigation, research contracts, intellectual property and licensing, and operations in the Mainland China.  Major responsibilities include advising on University policies and regulations, drafting and negotiating contracts, liaising with external lawyers in managing litigation cases and representing the University in legal proceedings, advising the University Council and management, working closely with the University administration on risk management and good governance, and performing any other duties as assigned.

Requirements

A solicitor admitted to practise in Hong Kong or PRC with at least 6 years' post-qualification legal experience, either in corporate and commercial, intellectual property, employment or civil litigation practice.  Solid experience in commercial transactional works, drafting and negotiating collaboration R&D and technology licensing contracts, dispute resolution and/or PRC related advisory work would be an advantage.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work independently, proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese (preferably including Putonghua) are required.  Excellent academic and professional credentials, a collaborative and client-enabling approach to legal advising and familiarity with the higher education setting are definite advantages.

Candidates with less experience or lower qualifications may be considered for a junior position. 

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a written test.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
