Assistant IT Manager (at the rank of Executive Officer I) in the Computing Services Centre [Ref. D/173/09]

 

The appointee will work in the Data Centre Services of the Computing Services Centre.

Duties

  1. Cloud development in hybrid cloud environment:
    • Implement and optimize cloud infrastructure including initial and ongoing configuration of related automation, notification and reporting capabilities;
    • Implement and maintain cloud security controls in private cloud environment; and
    • Implement and maintain cloud infrastructure for appropriate disaster recovery, high availability, fail over, and/or redundancy for cloud deployed applications.
  2. Cloud service support in hybrid cloud environment:
    • Identify and troubleshoot cloud service events and issues, work with cloud service providers to solve issues effectively or implement workarounds as needed;
    • Plan and lead an engagement with application development teams to adopt cloud solutions;
    • Understand software engineering practices and their impact on efficient and effective use of DevOps and cloud solutions;
    • Clearly articulate and explain complex concepts and technologies to non-technical stakeholders; and
    • Adapt to rapidly evolving environment and frequent transition of technologies and teams.
  3. Cloud deployment in hybrid cloud environment:
    • Work with application development teams to migrate Legacy/On-Premise applications to cloud environments;
    • Work with team members and other central IT offices (Office of the Chief Information Officer and Enterprise Solutions Office) to choose appropriate technology solutions and facilitate complete integration into hybrid cloud environments; and
    • Develop and refine standards in partnership with information security best practices.
  4. Perform any other duties as assigned.


Work outside office hours will be required.


Requirements

  1. A good honours degree in Computer Science or related disciplines, with at least 7 years’ relevant post-qualification experience (preferably in highly virtualized shared infrastructure, platforms or application architecture at a large enterprise or service provider);
  2. 1 year’s experience in software development terminologies (e.g. REST, Ruby, Python, Java or C++, scripting languages, and automation tools such as Ansible);
  3. Being reliable and self-motivated with strong communication, analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills;
  4. Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua); and
  5. Ability to work independently and under pressure, as well as effectively with team members; and
  6. Professional certificate in VMware/Microsoft preferred.


Candidates with less experience may be considered for appointment as IT Officer (at the rank of Executive Officer II). 

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a written test.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
