Clinical Programme Manager in the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences [Ref. C/610/09]

 

The Clinical Programme Manager at Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences (JCC) is responsible for developing and integrating the clinical teaching programme of the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) at partner sites, including CityU Veterinary Medical Centre (CVMC) and CityU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (CVDL).  Run by CityU Veterinary Health Group (CVHG), a wholly-owned subsidiary of CityU, CVMC and CVDL facilitate clinical teaching and support JCC’s clinical research programme while delivering high-quality service to the community.

Duties

Be an advocate of clinical teaching; develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure that JCC’s clinical teaching activities are in compliance with the requirements set by the accreditation bodies of the BVM programme (AVBC and RCVS); work closely with CVHG and JCC’s other partners to coordinate teaching-related activities and other matters relevant to accreditation.

Other responsibilities include to:

  1. Work with the Associate Dean and Director of Veterinary Affairs, and the leadership teams at partner sites to develop, communicate and implement sustainable roles and responsibilities for clinical teaching staff who are service-providers at the partner sites.  Ensure the clinical teaching staff receiving regular training, feedback and support for their role;
  2. Ensure the smooth integration of JCC clinical faculty into partner sites;
  3. Coordinate the delivery and assessment of BVM teaching at partner sites;
  4. Coordinate student activities at partner sites;
  5. Monitor activities at the partner sites including patient care, medical records, pharmacy, EBM integration, biosecurity related to the academic missions of JCC;
  6. Identify accreditation-related issues; recommend and implement appropriate solutions to resolve these issues;
  7. Actively contribute to the development of policies and procedures to secure and maintain accreditation of the BVM;
  8. Work with the JCC Dean, Associate Deans and Department Heads to ensure mutually supportive programme meeting the service mission of the College;
  9. Develop and deliver new initiatives agreed between JCC and partner sites;
  10. Demonstrate a commitment to modelling fairness, respect and dignity in the workplace at all times; promote a positive work environment;
  11. Research, support and promote diversity as well as ensuring a climate of mutual respect and collegiality; establish and sustain effective, mutually beneficial working relationships with all levels of management, faculty and staff;
  12. Compose annual evaluation of JCC teaching-related activities within the partner sites; and
  13. Provide exemplary clinical instruction and service at partner sites and to BVM students, residents, and other stakeholders as required.



Requirements

  1. A veterinary degree recognized for registration as a veterinary surgeon in Hong Kong;
  2. Solid experience in veterinary education, preferably in a clinical teaching environment;
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills as well as spoken and written communications skills in English; 
  4. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with colleagues at all levels; 
  5. Highly developed organizational, analytic and reasoning skills along with the ability to manage multiple priorities;
  6. Demonstrated success in relationship building to drive a collaborative approach to problem solving and policy development;
  7. A commitment to ongoing personal and professional development; and
  8. Strong team-oriented leadership skills, and full understanding of our mission on teaching, research, client and patient care. 

 

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  1. Postgraduate degree in veterinary medicine or management, e.g. PhD, MBA and/or veterinary specialty board certification, e.g. Diplomate of an American or European College or Fellowship of Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists;
  2. Relevant, demonstrated experience in administration in a large and complex organization such as an academic teaching hospital, large veterinary referral hospital, large business operations or industry; and
  3. Postgraduate qualification in higher education such as Graduate Certificate in Higher Education and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

 

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
