Assistant Librarian II (Research Support and Scholarly Communication) in the Library [Ref. B/168/09]


The Run Run Shaw Library is seeking a suitable candidate to help in its different research support and scholarly communication services.

Duties

  1. Assist in maintenance and enhancement of the University’s integrated research information system (the System) in the areas of research output content management and research profile and portal;
  2. Assist researchers in meeting the open access requirements of the funding agencies through copyright checking and clearance with the publishers; 
  3. Provide consultation service and support on the use of the System, journal rankings, citation analysis, research impact measurement, benchmarking reports and author identity management;
  4. Conduct workshops and training sessions, prepare user guides and webpages for different research support and scholarly communications services of the Library;
  5. Participate in working groups on research services and other special projects;
  6. Keep abreast of current professional development in related areas;
  7. Explore and develop new forms of user support to embed Library’s services in the faculty’s research cycle and scholarly exchange; and
  8. Perform any other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

  1. A good honours degree plus a recognized postgraduate degree in Library Science/Library and Information Science (or equivalent);
  2. Relevant post-qualification experience in an academic library;
  3. Knowledge of research support, scholarly communication issues and trends, open access initiatives, intellectual property and copyright issues;
  4. Experience in metadata handling and content management for an institutional repository system or a current research information system;
  5. Proficiency in written and spoken English with excellent presentation, communication and customer service skills;
  6. Attention to details and multi-tasking orientation;
  7. Ability to work independently, cooperatively and collegially with colleagues; and
  8. Demonstrated professionalism with strong motivation, innovation, flexibility and commitment.

 

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
