The Department of Physics aspires to become the leading physics department in the Asia-Pacific region. Presently, the department’s research interests are broadly organized into five theme areas: Theory and Computational Physics; Spectroscopy and Imaging; Quantum Materials; Soft Matter and Biophysics; Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) Physics.  For more information about the department, please visit https://www.cityu.edu.hk/phy/.

With its global scholar recruitment campaign, the University aims to recruit outstanding scholars from all over the world in various disciplines.  The physics department is seeking outstanding scholars with expertise in the following research fields:

Theory and computational physics

  • High-energy physics/astrophysics/cosmology
  • Statistical mechanics/complex systems/non-linear physics
  • Machine learning/first-principles calculations/large-scale simulations


Experimental physics

  • Quantum materials’ synthesis, particularly with expertise in single crystal growth

Duties

Successful candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Requirements

A PhD in Physics or closely related areas, evidence of the ability to build and lead an independent programme of research.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance.  Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable). Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
