Dr Andy CHENG Chak Kwong, a postdoctoral fellow in Prof. HUANG Yu’s laboratory, received RGC Postdoctoral Fellowship in recognition of his outstanding academic performance at the 2022 RGC Award Presentation Ceremony held on 7 November 2022.

The RGC Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme (PDFS) is launched by Research Grants Council (RGC), aiming to encourage doctoral graduates in pursuing career in research and provide promising researchers with support at a pivotal time in their very early career. The scheme also aims to ensure a supply of talent with scientific and research skills for research and future development in Hong Kong.

Dr Cheng’s PDFS project is “Gut Microbiome Remodeling Accelerates Ageing-induced Cardiometabolic Disorders”. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. There is a potential linkage between the dysfunctional gut microbiome and the pathology of cardiovascular diseases. Under the support of RGC Postdoctoral Fellowship, Dr Cheng aims to investigate the contribution of gut-cardiovascular connection in the development of cardiovascular diseases, thus providing a scientific basis for the future development of new therapies against cardiovascular diseases.

The Department of Biomedical Sciences (BMS) would like to express congratulations to Andy for receiving the Fellowship which acknowledges his work and facilitates the lab’s further research in the area.
