Pioneer in AIDS Treatment, Professor David Ho, Visited the Department of Biomedical Sciences

Professor David Ho, Chief Executive Officer of the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center and the Irene Diamond Professor at the Rockefeller University, has visited the Department of Biomedical Sciences (BMS) on 12 November 2014.

Professor Ho is a world famous AIDS researcher. In the middle of the 1990s, Professor Ho championed the combination anti-retroviral therapy for treating HIV infections which has transformed AIDS from a death sentence to a manageable disease. Professor Ho was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science from CityU at this year’s graduation ceremony.

During his visit, Professor Ho listened to the introductions of research projects by BMS faculty members. Professor Ho shared his insights into the research programs and offered suggestions for the setup of the new BMS department.

Followed by his visit to BMS, Professor Ho gave a City University Distinguished Lecture on novel approaches for the prevention of HIV infection. In his lecture, Professor Ho outlined his recent research on developing monoclonal antibodies and vaccines for the management of HIV infections.
