Professor Kenneth Leung Awarded RGC Research Impact Fund Grant for 2025/26

The School of Energy and Environment (SEE) extends its congratulations to Prof. Kenneth Leung Mei-yee, BBS, JP, Affiliate Professor of SEE, on being awarded a project under the Research Grants Council (RGC)’s Research Impact Fund (RIF) 2025/26.
His project, titled “The UN-endorsed Global Estuaries Monitoring (GEM) Programme: Occurrence and environmental risks of contaminants of emerging concern in the world’s estuaries”, was one of the four projects awarded to CityUHK, underscoring the University’s strength in impactful and interdisciplinary research. The project has been funded with HK$10.29 million, with HK$7.2 million provided by the RGC and the remainder through university matching. This initiative marks the second phase of the UN-endorsed GEM Programme, building on the successful first phase, which is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2026.
Established in 2018/19, the RIF seeks to encourage local academics to consider and articulate the potential of their research to deliver benefits to the wider community. It promotes more impactful and translational projects within local universities, while also fostering collaboration beyond academia through partnerships with government departments, the business sector, industry, and research institutes.
Prof. Leung’s work makes significant contributions to advancing environmental and sustainability studies. SEE warmly congratulates him on this achievement and looks forward to the positive outcomes of his research.
