Professor Edwin TSO Awarded NSFC Excellent Young Scientist Fund (Category B) 2025

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to sustainable energy and environmental research, Ir Prof. Edwin Tso, Associate Dean (Internationalisation and Outreach) and Associate Professor at the School of Energy and Environment (SEE), City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), has been awarded a RMB 2 million research grant under the Excellent Young Scientist Fund (Category B) for 2025 by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) [2025年度青年科學基金項目（B類）].

Prof. Tso’s awarded project, titled “Adaptive Passive Building Envelopes and Intelligent Control of Indoor Light and Thermal Environment” (自適應被動式建築表皮及室內光熱環境智能控制), addresses critical challenges in sustainable building design. These include the limited climate adaptability of radiative cooling building envelopes, the narrow spectral regulation range of perovskite thermochromic materials, and the mismatch between passive building envelope performance and building energy systems. Through cutting-edge research, the project seeks to establish a solid theoretical and methodological foundation for developing high-performance passive building envelopes and achieving precise control over indoor lighting and thermal conditions.

The NSFC Excellent Young Scientist Fund is a prestigious initiative that supports exceptional early-career researchers—male scientists under the age of 38 and female scientists under 40—who have demonstrated academic excellence and strong potential for pioneering research.
