Start up 101 (English)

"The world is changing rapidly. The development of technology is transforming nearly every aspect of our lives—from education and industry to the environment and beyond. Today’s young people face challenges and opportunities vastly different from those of previous generations. Fortunately, the human mind possesses immense potential for creativity and innovation. With the right support from universities and governments, students and entrepreneurs can develop solutions to address both current and future societal issues.

City University of Hong Kong is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment that nurtures young talent. By drawing support from the local community and the mainland, we aim to strengthen Hong Kong’s connection to the Greater Bay Area and beyond. This global connectivity will empower the next generation to become future leaders and innovators—not just for the city or the region, but for the world.

In May 2025, CityUHK hosted the first HK Tech 300 Expo — an innovation and entrepreneurship exhibition highlighting the HK Tech 300 program, launched in 2021. Since its inception, the Michael Ngai CityUHK Council Chairman xiv Startup 101 university has incubated hundreds of startups, translating academic research into impactful, real-world applications. This year, we also introduced the HK Tech 300 International Start-up Competition, further expanding our startup ecosystem onto the global stage.

The release of this English edition of Startup 101 further underscores CityUHK’s innovative spirit and highlights the unique resources available to entrepreneurs in Hong Kong. This book serves as a valuable guide for aspiring startup founders as they begin their entrepreneurial journeys. At the same time, it offers inspiration to anyone interested in innovation—sharing insights that spark the imagination and, without a doubt, have the power to change the world.
