Sustainable Governance – Student Representatives and Organisations
City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) is committed to fostering sustainable governance by fully supporting student organisations and listening to student voices via student representatives and student chapters at institutional and departmental levels.
At institutional level, Student Representatives in the Council act as the bridge between students and university’s governing body. Following the CityUHK Ordinance, one undergraduate student and one postgraduate student are elected in accordance with statutes from among the undergraduate and postgraduate students and appointed by the Council, the supreme governing body of CityUHK. It allows the University to communicate effectively with students on relevant matters and also highlights the University’s dedication to the democratic voice of our student population. There are also student representatives serving on the Boards of Colleges and Schools.
Furthermore, through a network of Student Chapters, CityUHK fosters communication between the University and the students at different levels. Some student delegates are chosen through elections among themselves, while others are appointed. The student delegates of each chapter organise tailor-made activities and outreach events for students of respective colleges, schools and departments.
CityUHK also actively supports Student Organisations with robust external connections, creating a dynamic environment where students can engage, lead, and contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive community. The Student Development Services (SDS) works closely with our student leaders of different organisations to support their functions with abundant resources.
At CityUHK, we believe that sustainable governance is rooted in listening to our students and empowering them to shape their university experience.
