Abstract

Toby will provide an overview of sustainable investing and its stage of development, particularly in Asia.  He will then go through several case studies to illustrate how these are applied in practice: distributed infrastructure; the hydrogen economy, and rejuvenation of a historic ski town in rural Japan.

About the Speaker

Toby is a co-founder of Audacy Ventures, with a focus on sustainable investments across renewables, venture investments (cleantech, healthcare, food tech), and alternative real estate. He has a dual role in advising portfolio companies, Brawn Capital, a private equity firm dedicated to funding distributed renewable energy developments throughout Asia (currently active in Japan, Taiwan and Vietnam).

He has 15 years of private equity and investment banking experience in infrastructure, renewables, technology, real estate, natural resources and energy investments globally. Toby advised on over US$15bn in transactions during his tenure at Macquarie Capital and Kerogen Capital, where he was a founding team member and executed on over US$1bn of fundraising from institutions and family offices.

Toby is also a "powderhound" and is a qualified ski instructor with the NZSIA (New Zealand Snowsports Instructor Alliance).  His passion for snowsports has led him to co-found Yuu Resorts, a sustainable tourism project to be launched in Myoko Kogen, an area that was relatively unknown until recent years and is now renowned for its plentiful “Japow” located in Niigata, Japan.
