First Runner-up Prize in the Championship for the International Competition on Second Life for Retired Batteries from Electric Vehicles

Dr. Yarime Masaru, Associate Professor of School of Energy and Environment, has been awarded First Runner-up Prize in the Championship for the International Competition on Second Life for Retired Batteries from Electric Vehicles organized by the Environment Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. In collaboration with Professor Steve Evans and Ms. Na Jiao of the University of Cambridge, the awarded project titled “Maximising the Value of Second-Life Batteries for a Smarter Demand-Side Management in Hong Kong: The Cloud Energy Storage System Based on Big Data" proposes a smart energy management system for supply-demand balance utilising distributed EV batteries on buildings and facilities, which can deliver energy efficiency, CO2 reduction and high total energy value.
