The Service Robot – Sibob/思博 nicknamed Bob/阿博/小博

Robot

The Library is exploring ways of deploying robot for library services. It is one of our initiatives to create a smart campus experience. It also represents our ongoing commitment to improve library services. An appropriate model of a robot was acquired recently.

Using LiDAR and AI technologies, our Service Robot can manoeuvre autonomously, accurately, and smartly to pre-set desired locations. To ensure safety, its anti-collision sensor can avoid hitting obstacles or people along its navigation paths. The Service Robot is also equipped with a multi-touch LCD screen monitor for users to select various services. Moreover, its built-in HD camera, speaker, and microphone can enable videotelephony communication between users and service desk / back office staff.

While the Library is working hard to configure the robot for effective functions, we would like to introduce this new member to the university community at the beginning of a new academic year. And so, the robot will make its debut in September 2021. In addition to giving users a warm welcome at the library entrance, it will go around to greet patrons.

The robot will provide the following services:

  • Guide user to specific library locations
  • Conduct library tour
