Interlibrary Loan Services: Resource Sharing Beyond the CityUHK Collections

New Requirements for Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Services under Subsidiary Legislation of the Copyright Ordinance

Effective 1 January 2026, under the new subsidiary legislation of the Copyright Ordinance (Cap. 528), users may be required to complete and sign a Declaration Form prior to the reproduction of requested materials that fall within specific prescribed conditions related to permitted uses of copyright works.

Users impacted by this requirement will be notified via email and must submit the completed Declaration Form within 24 hours. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of the request without prior notice. To avoid disruptions, users are strongly advised to check their CityUHK email inbox regularly.

About Interlibrary Loan Services

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Services support the research and teaching needs of the City University of Hong Kong community by providing access to materials not available at the Run Run Shaw Library, sourced from local UGC-funded libraries and overseas libraries.

New Enhancements to Interlibrary Loan Services:

  • Interlibrary Loan and HKALL services are now fully integrated into CityUHK LibraryFind, offering a streamlined and unified interface for all resource requests.
  • Search and request physical and digital content from other UGC-funded libraries in Hong Kong and institutions worldwide directly via CityUHK LibraryFind
  • Track the status of your request under "My request" in My Library Account

  1. Users will be using their CityUHK Library total loan quotas to borrow Interlibrary (HKALL / Others) books.
  2. Library materials that are unavailable (not owned, lost or missing) in our Library, including books, dissertations, journal articles, and others, may be requested. The success of acquiring the materials depends on the lending library's policies.
  3. Others refer to the local or overseas libraries other than HKALL.
  4. Outside Hong Kong or Visiting Research / Postgraduate / Undergraduate Degree Students are ineligible for the Interlibrary Loan Services (ILL+HKALL).
