Services and Facilities


Users can confine their search scope to audio visual materials by selecting “Audio Visual” from the “Resource Type” Menu in ADVANCED SEARCH at CityU LibraryFind.

Loans

All loans are made upon presentation of valid City University ID Cards or Borrower's Cards with barcodes. Cards are not transferable and cannot be used on behalf of any other person (see Library Regulations).

For DVDs, VCDs, CDs and kits that are kept in the Media Resources Collection Room, check out the items at the Circulation Counter during counter service hours. For videocassettes, audio cassettes, laser discs, CD/DVD-ROMs, microforms and other media resources that are kept at the Shatin Storage, request them online and pick up at the Smart Pickup Lockers after receiving the email notice.

Academic staffs of CityU and HKBU who have valid JULAC Library Card can borrow Media Resources out of the libraries for teaching purposes between Hong Kong Baptist University Library and City University of Hong Kong Library. Click here for details.

Loan Periods and Loan Quotas

Media resource loans are on a first-come-first-served basis. All loans are not renewable. Interactive videos, computer software and microforms are normally for use in the Library only.

Returns

All media resource items must be returned to the Circulation Counter during counter service hours or via the Media Return drop box outside the Library & at the Student Residence (outside Sir Gordon and Lady Ivy Wu Hall). Loaned items should be returned in good condition and in complete set on or before the due date/time. Incomplete return will not be accepted. Overdue fines will be charged for late returns.

Overdue Fines

Normal Media Resources Loans:
HK$5 per item per calendar day

Media Reserve Item Loans:

5-Hour Loan: HK$2 per item per hour or part of an hour after the expiry time;
Hours that the Library Circulation Counter is closed will not be counted as overdue period.
1-Day Loan: HK$24 per item per calendar day

Loss and Damage

Users are held responsible for any loss or damage of media resources while on loan to them. The total cost for replacing the lost or damaged item in addition to the processing fee which normally will be HK$50.00 plus any accumulated fines will be charged to the users involved. Reservation for Class Use (for teaching staff only)

In order to facilitate the use of Library media resources in classes by teaching staff, special requests to reserve these materials can be made preferably two weeks before the class by sending an e-mail to lbres@cityu.edu.hk. Course code, item title, call no., and desired pick up date should be provided in the requesting email.

An email notice will be sent to the requester when the item is available for pick up at the Circulation Counter.

Media Resources for Courses - Media Reserve

In order to facilitate the use of Library media resources by students, teaching staff may submit requests to place course-related media resource items on Course Reserve as Media Reserve items. These items may be borrowed from the Circulation Counter and have short loan periods of 5 hours or 1 day. Overnight loan is available for 5-hour loans.

Recommendation of Media Resources

Users are welcome to make recommendations for the purchase of library media resources. For more information on recommending library materials, please refer to the Recommendation of Library Materials page.

Facilities

Individual Viewing

Multimedia PC workstations and carrels with audiovisual equipment are available for use by all library users. To use the AV carrels, please approach the IT Help Desk.

Group Viewing

Eight Group Study Rooms (with seating capacity up to 10) located at Humanities Academy are available for booking by CityU staff and students via the Library Facilities Booking System. Various audiovisual equipment are provided in the rooms to support group viewing activities. For more information on booking the Group Study Rooms, please refer to the Humanities Academy page.

CityU students and academic staff are eligible to use the Mini Theatre for screening of DVDs, playing audio recordings, exhibition of staff or student works, and for small lectures.For information on the use and booking policy, please refer to the Mini Theatre page.

Microform Equipment

The microform reader/scanner located outside the Media Resources Collection Room is available for viewing, printing and scanning microform materials. To use it, please approach the IT Help Desk.
